Verizon Business has enhanced the reach and capabilities of its network across South Asia as part of its continued investment in, and long-term commitment to, the Asia-Pacific region.

The company said this week that additional private Internet protocol (IP) nodes are now available to its global customers with offices in Manila, the Philippines, and Penang, Malaysia, giving these customers an expanded direct and secure, high-performance link to the Verizon Business global IP network.

Verizon Private IP is a network-based, virtual private network (VPN) that enables customers to effectively communicate over a secure network. The service also provides the foundation for automating business processes between companies, including e-commerce, and shared intranets and extranets. Based on multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) technology, Verizon Private IP offers customers scalable and flexible network connections with integrated performance and traffic management capabilities.

Customers are said to benefit from improved performance and reduced latency in the delivery of their business-critical information across the network.

“Verizon Business has made significant investments in additional capacity and new facilities across the Asia-Pacific region throughout 2007,” said Ihab Tarazi, vice president - global network planning. “The availability of Private IP nodes in Malaysia and the Philippines reflects the growing importance of these markets to our multinational customers. Most importantly, it is yet another example of our continued focus on global capabilities to support our customers’ business objectives.”

Other investments Verizon has made around the region this year, includes the Trans-Pacific Express submarine cable and recent major Australia backbone expansion.
