Disk-based data protection solutions provider FalconStor Software last week signed an agreement with Jardine OneSoltion (JOS) to distribute its new FalconStor Continuous Data Protection (CDP) Virtual Appliance for VMware Infrastructure solution in Singapore.
Targeted at small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), the solution aims to provide continuous data protection for both physical and virtual machines.
Riding on today’s major IT trend that is virtualization, the CDP Virtual Appliance comes integrated with VMware ESX Server 3i and enables organisations to meet data protection challenges by providing data protection capabilities such as snapshot, mirroring, replication for “any point in time recovery” for business continuity and remote replication for disaster recovery.
“With the introduction of the CDP Virtual Appliance for VMware, FalconStor has taken data protection to an entirely new level by creating a single solution that meets customers' continuous availability needs across both physical and virtual environments,” said Simon Ng, Regional Director, South Asia Pacific, FalconStor.
Speaking at the official launch last week, Simon said that the new solution will target key industries such as manufacturing, retail and hospitality. He also said that the tool—which comes pre-configured, pre-built and packaged with ready-to-run software-- will benefit organisations that run mission critical applications such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) as well as Multinational Corporation departmental application servers.
According to a Forrester report, “Disk-Based Data Protection Forecast”, enterprises are shifting to CDP offerings for business continuity, with CDP adoption for databases and messaging applications projected to increase from 20% in 2006 to 35% in 2011. The study also revealed that enterprises in emerging Asia Pacific markets are expected to adopt advanced disk-only data protection offerings such as CDP at a faster rate than VirtualTap Library (VTL).
Simon also told journalists that teaming up with JOS Dsitribution will help expand FalconStor’s reach into the Singapore SMB market.
“The new relationship with JOS Distribution will provide FalconStor with an opportunity to rapidly gain market share in Singapore and with additional technical resources ready-to-deploy CDP Virtual Appliance,” elaborated Simon.
FalconStor is headquartered in Melville, New York with regional offices in China and Australia. It has some 50 R&D engineers in China.
FalconStor CDP Virtual Appliance for VMware is now available in Singapore.
Simon told SDA Asia that this is the first roll out in Asia and a subsequent roll out in Malaysia will be done on 3rd April 2008. Plans for future deployments in Asia are also in the pipeline but Simon was unable to share when these can be expected as of yet. |
