CommunicAsia 2008 and BroadcastAsia 2008, Asia’s largest ICT (Information and Communication Technology) event kick started its annual week-long conference today in Singapore, serving as a global platform for networking and communications vendors, broadcasters, telecommunications operators and government organisations from all over Asia and the world to congregate and exchange industry best practices.

Running until the 19th of June, both events are expected to attract some 68,000 visitors and over 2,300 exhibiting companies from 61 countries.

“Today’s information, communications and media technologies and business landscape are changing at an exponential rate; each year brings new products, services and devices that we could have hardly imagined just a few years ago. The pace of the industry can be so overwhelming and hard to keep updated on, even for seasoned industry professionals.” said Mr Stephen Tan, Chief Executive of Singapore Exhibition Services.

“For this reason, CommunicAsia and BroadcastAsia have become increasingly relevant and important, serving as key platforms for the industry to meet, network and get a hands-on experience for what is on the cutting edge, and what to look out for in their related technological spheres.”

Key technologies that can be expected at CommunicAsia this year include 3G/HSDPA, WiMAX/LTE, Broadband, Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC), Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH), Next Generation Networks (NGN), IP Technology, Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), Location Based Services (LBS), Global Positioning Services (GPS), Voice over IP (VoIP), Mobile Entertainment, Satellite and Security.

BroadcastAsia2008 will feature some of the hottest technologies in the market, including Broadcasting-to-Handheld, Digital Media Asset Management, Immersive Technology, HD Technology, IPTV, Mobile Entertainment and Professional Audio Technology.

Companies making a debut this year at CommunicAsia include Internet goliath Yahoo!, BlackBerry, Sandisk, TeleAtlas and SK Telesys.
