TANDBERG and Microsoft to Deliver High Def USB Camera

Telepresense, videoconferencing and mobile video solutions provider TANDBERG has made public, a join initiative with Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, to deliver a high-definition USB camera claiming that it will dramatically improve video communications for the desktop PC user.

Aimed for integration with Microsoft’s unified communications platform the said high-definition USB camera hopes to act as a catalyst for the mass adoption of high-definition videoconferencing originating from desktop personal computers.

TANDBERG said it will deliver the camera in conjunction with Microsoft’s intended support of high-definition video in its next release of Microsoft Office Communications Server. A remote PC user using the camera will experience high-quality video communications and, through Microsoft Office Communications Server, can connect to a network of meeting rooms outfitted with telepresence and high-definition videoconferencing systems.

“We are committed to extending access to high-definition video communications from telepresence and group conferencing systems to the individual user at the desktop,” said Fredrik Halvorsen, CEO of TANDBERG.

“This initiative supports our focus on driving network-related products and services as we approach the tipping point of mass adoption of video communications.”

Microsoft showcased this capability with TANDBERG technology during a keynote address at VoiceCon 2008 delivered by Gurdeep Singh Pall, Microsoft corporate vice president, unified communications.

The high-definition USB camera is currently planned for roll out in the first half of 2009 and will be priced at 300 dollar.
