Fujitsu Intros HandyDrive 2.5-inch External USB HDDs for ASEAN

Fujitsu Asia Monday announced the new HandyDrive series of external Universal Serial Bus 2.0 (USB 2.0) hard disk drives (HDDs) for the ASEAN and India markets.

Incorporating a 2.5-inch form factor, the HandyDrive series comprises five models with storage capacities of 160 gigabytes (GB), 250GB, 320GB, 400GB and 500GB. The 160GB, 250GB and 320GB versions have a spindle speed of 5,400 revolutions per minute (rpm) while the other two versions are rated at 4,200rpm.

All five models are compatible with Windows and Macintosh operating systems, support a maximum data rate of 600 megabits per second (Mbps) and draw power from the USB 2.0 interface.

Designed for busy professionals on the go, the HandyDrive HDDs incorporate a utility management regime that reduces the drives’ standby power consumption by 35 per cent from normal levels. The series also offer a new password lock tool for users to secure stored information and prevent data theft or unauthorised access.

Each model measures 22 x 82 x 141.5 millimetres (smaller than a 4R-sized photograph frame) and weighs less than 220 grams, making them highly portable devices ideal for road warriors and frequent travellers. Their built-in internal shock-absorption mechanism increases robustness and serves to protect accidental data loss from rough handling.

“With the new HandyDrive series, Fujitsu once again demonstrates our expertise in hard disk drive design and manufacturing. We are pleased to introduce the HandyDrive series as the ideal solution for the expanding mobile storage market and users looking for portable HDD devices with higher capacities, compact designs, and advanced data security features,” said Mr Loh Chong Shing, Regional Senior Vice-President, Fujitsu Asia.
